Man arrested in Salem for gold chain snatchings

Police arrested a 22-year-old man on Monday evening in connection with two gold chain snatchings that occurred within 24 hours in the Karuppur area of Salem.

The first incident took place on Sunday when a man approached R. Saradha, 51, at her vegetable shop near a Murugan temple in Karuppur town panchayat. He inquired about prices before snatching her five-sovereign gold chain and fleeing.

The second incident happened on Monday morning. A helmeted man on a motorcycle asked S. Santhiya, 33, for biscuits at her grocery shop on Karuppur Main Road before snatching her two-sovereign chain.

Karuppur police arrested R. Vignesh of Pennagaram in Dharmapuri district at Hasthampatti later that evening. Officers recovered the gold chains and a two-wheeler from the suspect.
