The 38-year-old Marvin S. has confessed to additional rapes in an ongoing trial in Berlin. He is accused of four acts against two women. This suggests he may be a serial offender.
In July, Marvin S., a 38-year-old business administrator and former managing director, was sentenced by the Berlin Regional Court to five and a half years in prison. The conviction for raping a 20-year-old woman in April 2022 is not yet final. The court was convinced that he induced the intoxicated woman, who was about to complete her Fachabitur, to consume drugs, exploited her condition, performed unilateral sexual acts, smeared her body with misogynistic words, and made video recordings.
In the current second trial, Marvin S. is accused of four further acts between February 2020 and March 2021, involving two women—a 47-year-old and a 29-year-old. The defendant has confessed to these charges, as stated by a defense lawyer in a statement on phone data analysis. The testimony occurred ten days ago in a closed session. The indictments were read in closed court at the request of the co-plaintiff lawyers to protect the victims, as were the statements of the victims and the defendant.
The allegations came to light during the first trial when the court ordered police to fully analyze the defendant's phone. A co-plaintiff lawyer reported on the sidelines: "When their clients were confronted with recordings by the police, they were shocked. They hadn't known until that point 'that they had become victims.'"
If convicted, Marvin S. faces not only imprisonment but also subsequent security detention. In the first case, there was criticism of the Berlin police: Officers had not investigated initially despite being alerted by an emergency doctor, even with indications of crimes. The family of the 20-year-old, who had to be resuscitated for minutes, filed a criminal complaint. Internal investigations against the officers are now underway. The trial continues on November 4.
