Mboko and Muchova set for Qatar TotalEnergies Open final

Victoria Mboko and Karolina Muchova will contest the singles title at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open in Doha on Saturday. The 19-year-old Canadian, who started the year ranked No. 333, has reached her second WTA 1000 final after defeating Jelena Ostapenko in the semifinals. Muchova advanced with a comeback win over Maria Sakkari and seeks her second career title.

The Qatar TotalEnergies Open, the first WTA 1000 event of 2026, reaches its climax on Saturday at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha. Victoria Mboko, playing in only her sixth WTA 1000 main draw, faces Karolina Muchova in the singles final, scheduled not before 6 p.m. local time (3 p.m. GMT, 10 a.m. EST). This marks their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Mboko, the 2025 WTA Newcomer of the Year, has had a remarkable season. She won her home National Bank Open in Montreal last year and reached the final in Adelaide earlier in 2026, losing to Mirra Andreeva 6-3, 6-1. In Doha, she defeated Marie Bouzkova 7-5, 6-2; Vera Zvonareva 6-4, 6-4; Andreeva 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(5), saving a match point; Elena Rybakina 7-5, 4-6, 6-4; and Ostapenko 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals. Her 13 match wins lead the WTA in 2026. Mboko is guaranteed a top 10 debut in the PIF WTA Rankings on Monday. "It's kind of crazy," she said. "I think this came relatively fast, but it's a nice feeling."

Muchova, entering her seventh WTA final and third at the 1000 level, has dropped just one set in the tournament. She beat Jaqueline Cristian 6-2, 6-3; Tereza Valentova 6-1, 6-4; Karolina Pliskova 5-2, retired; Anna Kalinskaya 6-3, 6-4; and Sakkari 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinals. Her only title came at the 2019 Korea Open, and she is 1-5 in finals. A win would elevate her to No. 11 in the rankings. "I watch her here and she's playing incredible," Muchova said of Mboko. "It's for sure going to be a very tough battle."

The singles champion earns $665,000 and 1,000 ranking points, with the finalist receiving $385,001 and 650 points. The doubles final between Aleksandra Krunic-Anna Danilina and Jelena Ostapenko-Hsieh Su-wei precedes at 3:30 p.m. local time.
