Metro Manila trains adjust schedules for 2025 holidays

The Department of Transportation has announced schedule changes for LRT-2 and MRT-3 lines in Metro Manila ahead of Christmas and New Year 2025. Free rides will be available on LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 from December 14 to 25 for specific groups each day. These measures aim to ease holiday travel for commuters.

Starting December 9, 2025, the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) will extend its operating hours on weekdays and holidays like Christmas Day. The last train from Antipolo Station will depart at 10 p.m., while from Recto Station it will leave at 10:30 p.m. However, on Christmas Eve, December 24, and New Year's Eve, December 31, services will shorten: last trains from Antipolo at 8 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively, and from Recto at 8:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Normal operations resume on January 1.

The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) will also modify its timetable. On December 24 and 31, the last train from North Avenue Station will run at 7:45 p.m., and from Taft Avenue at 8:23 p.m. For December 25 and January 1, the first trips from both ends start at 6:30 a.m., with last departures at 10:30 p.m. from North Avenue and 11:09 p.m. from Taft Avenue. This contrasts with the regular weekday schedule, where services begin earlier at 4:30 a.m. from North Avenue and 5:05 a.m. from Taft Avenue.

LRT-1 has not yet announced any holiday adjustments as of the latest update.

To promote holiday cheer, the Department of Transportation is offering free rides on all three lines from December 14 to 25, targeting different passenger groups daily. Seniors get complimentary access on December 14, followed by students on the 15th, overseas Filipino workers and families on the 16th, teachers and health workers on the 17th, persons with disabilities and male passengers on the 18th, government employees on the 19th, female passengers on the 20th, families on the 21st, solo parents and LGBTQIA+ members on the 22nd, private sector employees and kasambahays on the 23rd, uniformed personnel, veterans, and families on the 24th, and all commuters on Christmas Day, the 25th.

These initiatives are designed to accommodate increased travel during the festive season while ensuring safety and efficiency for Metro Manila's rail users.
