On September 22, 2023, Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel was greeted by enthusiastic demonstrators outside Cuba’s Mission to the UN in New York. Activists linked to The People’s Forum showed solidarity against the US 'blockade'. At the same time, Cuban exiles protested human rights violations on the island.
It was the evening of Friday, September 22, 2023, when Miguel Diaz-Canel approached the headquarters of Cuba’s Mission to the UN, at the corner of Lexington Avenue and 38th Street. Enthusiastic demonstrators waited there with signs reading 'Take Cuba Off the List', 'Let Cuba Live', and 'Biden Hands Off Cuba'. Upon arriving, amid chants, he thanked them for their solidarity, their support, and for being— he said— 'here with us'. Later, Diaz-Canel posted claiming that 'the rulers of the empire (…) should listen to their own people'.
