Egypt's Industry Minister Khaled Hashem toured the Misr Spinning and Weaving Company complex in El Mahalla El Kubra on 11 July 2026 as part of efforts to modernise the textile sector.
The visit covered several facilities at the 2.5 million square metre site, which is undergoing a EGP 27bn modernisation programme. Hashem inspected Spinning Mill 1, described as the world's largest with 182,784 spindles, and Spinning Mill 4. He also viewed the weaving factory and the dyeing factory, where new machines are being installed with operations scheduled to start within three months.
Company officials reported annual production capacity of over 10,000 tonnes of yarn and related products, along with 1.9 million garments. Local content stands at 65 percent and exports reach about EGP 1.37bn yearly. The site supports around 14,000 jobs.
Gharbia Governor Alaa Abdel Maaty said the upgrades form part of Egypt's national textile strategy. Hashem described the company, established in 1927, as a cornerstone of the sector that boosts domestic supply chains and the value of Egyptian cotton.
