Modo sport director nears contract extension amid team challenges

Henrik Gradin, Modo's sport director, is close to extending his contract as talks intensify. Despite Modo's third-place standing in Hockeyallsvenskan, Gradin emphasizes the need for action to build team identity after recent losses.

Henrik 'Hinken' Gradin, Modo's sport director, is on the verge of a contract extension with the club. His current deal expires soon, but negotiations have ramped up in recent days, according to reports from Expressen. A clause in his contract mandates that talks must conclude by the end of November.

'It feels positive,' Gradin said. The discussions have focused on the club's vision, requirements, and direction rather than specifics, aiming for an agreement starting in the 2026/27 season. Gradin expressed a preference for a two- to three-year deal, ideally three years, stating, 'To get back to SHL and establish ourselves there requires more than short-term solutions.'

Meanwhile, Modo sits third in the Hockeyallsvenskan table but returned empty-handed from an away trip against Nybro and Karlskoga. Gradin highlighted mental challenges and a lack of clear identity as key issues. 'The learning period is definitely over. Now it's not just about talking; it has to be action on things,' he told ÖA.

He stressed the importance of coaches pushing players and developing a successful playing style, especially defensively against weaker opponents. Gradin is open to changes but cautioned against simplistic fixes: 'It's not just about firing players or coaches; that's not how the problems are solved.' The team must collectively find solutions soon to build confidence and identity.
