Namibia launches first professional padel league today

The Namibia Professional Padel League (NPPL) begins today, marking the introduction of a structured competitive platform for the rapidly growing sport in the country. Organized by Padel Addicts and LIV Padel Windhoek, the year-round league aims to formalize competitions and support player development. It features weekly seasons and major tournaments to boost visibility.

Namibia has seen a surge in interest for padel, drawing both recreational and competitive participants and prompting the creation of more opportunities in the sport. The NPPL represents a significant milestone by providing a unified, professional framework for players, addressing previous gaps in consistent competition.

At the heart of this initiative are Padel Addicts and LIV Padel Windhoek, who recognized the need for a managed league to elevate standards. The league kicks off today with an 11- to 22-week season of weekly matches, ensuring ongoing engagement. Complementing the regular play, three major weekend tournaments will take place at LIV Padel Windhoek, designed to highlight top talent and draw larger crowds.

NPPL representative Harald Fuelle highlighted the motivations behind the launch. “Padel is one of the fastest-growing sports in Namibia, and the demand is getting higher, but there has been no consistent league structure that offers professionalism and long-term development. The NPPL was created to respond to that reality,” he said.

Currently, the league is working toward registration with the Namibia Sports Commission to comply with regulations and solidify its foundation for future expansion. This step is expected to enhance the sport's growth nationwide by offering sustainable pathways for participants.
