Scottish rock band Nazareth has parted ways with lead singer Carl Sentance and introduced Gianni Pontillo as his successor. The change comes ahead of a busy 2026 schedule for the veteran group. Fans can expect to hear Pontillo's voice on upcoming tours.
The Scottish rock band Nazareth, formed in Dunfermline in 1968, has announced a significant lineup shift. On December 22, 2025, the group revealed that vocalist Carl Sentance is no longer with them, effective immediately. In his place, they have appointed Gianni Pontillo as the new lead singer.
In an official statement, Nazareth shared: "Carl Sentance and Nazareth have come to a parting of the ways, and he is no longer with the band. We would like to introduce you now to our new lead singer, Gianni Pontillo. Those who have seen and heard Gianni will already know what an incredible voice he has, and those of you who haven’t are in for a wonderful surprise when you come to see us in 2026. Next year is going to be one of the busiest in Nazareth’s history, so there is a good chance to see the new lineup, and we can’t wait to introduce you to this man’s amazing talent."
Sentance had joined Nazareth in 2015, stepping in after founding member Dan McCafferty retired due to health issues. His tenure included the release of his solo album Silent Angels in 2024. Pontillo brings experience from various projects, including fronting the German hard rock band Victory since 2019 and launching Pontillo & The Vintage Crew in 2023. He has also performed with Pure Inc., The Order, Souls Revival, and in productions like “Rock Circus” and “This Is Rock” by Das Zelt.
Nazareth's history dates back to their 1971 debut album. They rose to fame in the 1970s after touring with Deep Purple, leading to the critically acclaimed Razamanaz in 1973, produced by Roger Glover. Hits followed with Loud ‘N’ Proud, Rampant, and the 1975 chart-topper Hair Of The Dog, featuring tracks like the title song—later covered by Guns N’ Roses—and the enduring “Love Hurts.” As the band nears its 58th year in 2026, this lineup change signals continued activity on the international stage.
