The Netherlands and Japan played out a 2-2 draw in their 2026 World Cup Group F match in Dallas on Sunday. Virgil van Dijk and Crysencio Summerville scored for the Dutch, while Keito Nakamura and Daichi Kamada replied for Japan.
The match at Dallas Stadium saw the Netherlands take the lead five minutes after half-time when captain Virgil van Dijk headed in from a cross. Japan equalised shortly afterwards through Nakamura after a move down the left.
Crysencio Summerville restored the Dutch advantage with a curled finish into the far corner. In stoppage time, substitute Koki Ogawa’s header flicked off Daichi Kamada and past goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen to secure the point for Japan.
Both teams had created chances earlier, with Donyell Malen twice denied by Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki in the first half. The result leaves the sides level on one point each after their opening fixtures.
