OpenAI has launched GPT-5.5, its latest AI model integrated into ChatGPT, seven weeks after GPT-5.4. The update focuses on coding, computer use, and research, with enhanced agentic capabilities for independent task completion. Paying ChatGPT and Codex users can access it now, with API rollout planned soon.
OpenAI announced the release of GPT-5.5 on April 23, making it available immediately to paying ChatGPT and Codex users, including thinking and pro versions. The model builds on GPT-5.4, emphasizing work-oriented features like coding, computer interaction, and research. OpenAI President Greg Brockman described it as more intuitive, capable of handling unclear problems with minimal guidance. 'It can look at an unclear problem and figure out just what needs to happen next,' Brockman told reporters. 'It really feels like it's setting the foundation for how we're going to do computer work going forward, or how agent computing at scale will work.'
