Over 73,000 disaster-hit families receive OVP aid

Despite a significantly reduced budget, the Office of the Vice President provided assistance to over 73,000 families affected by major disasters, according to its year-end report. Initiatives included rice distribution and planting one million trees. Vice President Sara Duterte reaffirmed the office's commitment against corruption.

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) extended aid to 73,054 families affected by disasters, including 9,129 that received donated relief goods, as stated in its year-end report. Rapid response efforts addressed incidents like the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Cebu and the Mt. Kanlaon eruption, distributing 2,514 bags of 25-kilo rice.

Under the Relief for Indigents and Individuals in Crisis and Emergencies (RIICE) Program, the OVP provided 56,575 bags of rice and essential food items across various response zones. It also deployed a Kalusugan Food Truck that served meals to 1,866 volunteers, rescuers, and frontliners.

Beyond disaster relief, the OVP planted one million trees nationwide, meeting its target three years ahead of schedule. Through the Million Learners Campaign, it distributed 460,272 learner's bags, including to students from the Obu Manuvu Indigenous People community in Kidapawan City.

The office's digitalization initiatives earned a special citation from the Development Academy of the Philippines for completing the 'paper-less challenge,' saving 3.2 million sheets of paper. It received an unqualified opinion from the Commission on Audit, the highest audit rating.

"This is a clear indication of our transparency and fiscal integrity," Vice President Sara Duterte said. She vowed to stand against "the greed of some high-ranking officials in government." She added, "We will continue to show you that in our office it is important to have a plan, well-implemented projects, fight corruption and to have the courage and be caring to have a better future for our country."

For 2025, the OVP's budget is P733 million, P1.29 billion lower than its proposed P2.037 billion.
