Paraisópolis has barricades destroyed for the second time

São Paulo City Hall employees, escorted by Military Police, began destroying barricades and speed bumps in Paraisópolis on Thursday (16).

The operation has support from the 16th Metropolitan Military Police Battalion. The work seeks to clear roads to allow access for police vehicles, ambulances and firefighter teams.

This is the second such action in less than a month in the favela in southern São Paulo. In the previous operation, carried out in June, the state government said the structures had been installed by criminals to hinder operations against organized crime.

The removal of the speed bumps is part of Military Police actions after a Folha report in May showed blockades set up by the PCC faction at the entrance to Paraisópolis.
