John Carney's music dramedy Power Ballad has moved from limited to wide release across more than 1,200 screens. Lionsgate is handling distribution for the film starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas.
The film opened in wide release today after a limited run on ten screens last week. It previously screened at festivals including the Sands Film Festival in St. Andrews, Scotland, SXSW and Dublin, where audiences responded positively. Power Ballad holds an 85 percent rating from critics and 83 percent from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The comedy follows a wedding singer and a former boy band member on a road trip involving a stolen song. Carney directed the project, which features original music and explores the challenges of creating a hit song. The expansion aims to build on strong word of mouth during the summer season.
