A court in Vera has ordered pretrial prison without bail for the mother of a four-year-old boy and her partner, investigated for the child's murder in Garrucha, Almería. The boy's body was found with signs of physical and sexual violence on a beach Wednesday night. The woman exercised her right not to testify, while the man gave a statement.
On Wednesday, around 23:30, the Civil Guard found the lifeless body of a four-year-old boy in a rocky area of the beach on the border between Garrucha and Mojácar, Almería. The child showed signs of 'violent death', with indications of physical and sexual violence confirmed by the preliminary autopsy at the Almería Legal Medicine Institute.
The family had reported the boy's disappearance hours earlier, around 20:10, after receiving strange messages from the mother. This triggered a search operation involving the Civil Guard, Garrucha Local Police, and Civil Protection, initially focusing on the beaches where the mother was said to have spent the afternoon with her son.
The 21-year-old mother, five months pregnant, was questioned and arrested minutes after the discovery. Hours later, her partner was detained; he is not the child's biological father and had an active restraining order from the woman and the boy, issued on October 20 by Vera's Court number 1 for gender-based violence.
On Saturday, December 6, 2025, both appeared before the Civil and Instructional Section of Vera's Court number 4. The judge ordered pretrial prison, communicated and without bail, investigating them for murder and habitual mistreatment. Sources from the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia stated the woman invoked her right not to testify, while the man did give a statement.
The investigation, under secrecy of summary, aims to clarify the crime's details, including whether the child died at the scene or was moved there. Garrucha Town Hall declared official mourning on Thursday, December 4, and called for a minute of silence at 13:00. The mother, a Garrucha resident for over a year, currently lives in another coastal town in eastern Almería.
