PSC urges South Africa to challenge Israel's military actions in Gaza

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) has called on South Africa to take leadership in securing greater international support and measures against Israel's ongoing military actions in Gaza. This follows the latest developments in South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice under the Genocide Convention.

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) has responded to recent developments in South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague. Israel filed its counter-memorial at the court last week, challenging South Africa's request for a ruling that the Israeli Defence Force's military actions in Gaza amount to genocide. PSC spokesperson Usuf Chitke stated: “Apartheid Israel remains in contempt of the court, ignoring its provisional measures while continuing mass killings, starvation and forced displacement. This genocide in Gaza is enabled by the United States and its allies, who arm, fund, and shield Israel from accountability. The time for appeasement and impunity is over. The international community must enforce the court’s orders, impose sweeping sanctions, disarm the rogue nuclear state and isolate the Israeli regime.” South Africa has indicated it will now decide whether to request the court's permission for further written submissions in reply or to proceed directly to the oral phase of the proceedings. The call highlights PSC's urging for South Africa to lead in increasing international pressure.
