Western Illinois guard Raegan McCowan, a two-time All-OVC first-team selection, will visit Iowa women's basketball on April 13-14. The trip comes as the Hawkeyes seek to rebuild their backcourt through the transfer portal. Iowa College Hoops' John Bohnenkamp first reported the news.
Iowa women's basketball is hosting Raegan McCowan, a 6-foot guard from Lebanon, Missouri, amid roster changes. McCowan entered the transfer portal after an elbow injury limited her to 10 games last season with the Western Illinois Leathernecks. She averaged 17.0 points on 47.8% shooting and grabbed 6.4 rebounds per game during that time, maintaining a career 33.8% three-point shooting mark and over 1,500 points in two-plus seasons there. Her college averages stand at 20.4 points and 7.7 rebounds, with 46.5% field goal and 78.6% free-throw shooting. McCowan faced Iowa last November 26 in an 86-69 loss at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, scoring 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting, including 2-of-6 from three-point range. She added three rebounds and one assist in 21 minutes. The Hawkeyes have lost five players to the portal, leaving their backcourt with only Chit-Chat Wright, Taylor Stremlow, and Journey Houston. McCowan represents a key target as Iowa aims to strengthen its guard rotation.
