Residents of Hasanamapet village submitted a petition on Tuesday seeking the relocation of a TASMAC outlet on Vembakkam Kutt Road, citing frequent public nuisance and accidents.
A group of residents handed the petition to officials at the Revenue Divisional Office in Cheyyar town. They noted that the outlet sits near two temples, a government high school and a bank, on a road used by commuters from about 20 villages.
G. Pari, a local resident, said the outlet causes daily nuisance, with more problems on weekends when workers receive wages. Recent incidents include assaults by inebriated individuals and people lying on the road, which disrupts traffic.
The district has closed 19 TASMAC outlets so far, following a May directive by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to shut 717 outlets located within 500 metres of places of worship, schools and bus stands. Tiruvannamalai district accounts for 206 of the 385 outlets in the region.
