Samsung adds Perplexity AI to Galaxy S26 series

Samsung plans to integrate Perplexity's AI agent into its Galaxy AI platform for the upcoming S26 flagship devices. This move expands support for multiple AI agents across various apps. The announcement precedes Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event.

Samsung has announced that its next flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S26 series, will incorporate Perplexity's AI agent as part of an expanded Galaxy AI system. This integration aims to support multiple AI agents, providing users with greater choice and flexibility in task management.

The Perplexity agent will interact with several Samsung applications, including Samsung Notes, Clock, Gallery, Reminder, and Calendar. Certain third-party apps will also be compatible, though specific ones have not been disclosed. Users can activate the agent using the wake phrase "Hey Plex" or through quick-access physical controls.

Won-Joon Choi, President, COO, and Head of the R&D Office for Samsung's Mobile eXperience Business, stated that the expansion of Galaxy AI is designed to offer more options for completing tasks. He described Galaxy AI as "an orchestrator, bringing together different forms of AI into a single, natural, cohesive experience."

This development follows a previous partnership between Samsung and Perplexity, announced last year, which brought the company's AI search engine to Samsung TVs. However, Perplexity has faced challenges, including allegations of content scraping and copyright infringement. In September, it was sued by Merriam-Webster and Encyclopedia Britannica.

The news arrives days before Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event, where further details on the integration and its alignment with the updated Bixby assistant are expected.
