Authorities deployed security operations at Mexico City International Airport (AICM) to contain possible CNTE demonstrations one day before the start of the 2026 World Cup.
Officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security guarded the airport terminals from Wednesday morning. The AICM advised travelers to arrive with sufficient time and restricted access to passengers with boarding passes only. Mexico City Metro temporarily closed stations on lines 1 and 5 near the airport, although some were later reopened. RTP units provided free alternative service. The CNTE maintains sit-ins and demands the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE Law. Pedro Hernández of Section 9 warned they could move to the AICM if no agreements are reached before the tournament inauguration.
