Severe thunderstorms swept across Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia on Friday afternoon and evening. The storms triggered numerous emergency responses and traffic disruptions.
In Berlin an S-Bahn train on line S1 hit a hanging tree. The windshield shattered but no one was injured. The line reopened after about an hour.
Firefighters responded in Brandenburg to fallen trees and flooded basements. In Saxony-Anhalt at least 70 calls were recorded including flooded streets in Derenburg and Dessau-Roßlau.
In Thuringia two accidents occurred on the A71 with three people lightly injured. On the A4 a van collided with the guardrail injuring the driver. In Saxony firefighters rescued two stand-up paddlers from Kulkwitzer See.
