Singer Shakira used social media on Saturday to build hype for her free megashow on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, scheduled for May 2. She promised surprises including guest artists, new outfits, and a special setlist. The event is boosting hotel bookings and local retail.
Shakira posted on her social media on Saturday (25) to hype her show on Copacabana Beach a week away. "Almost there, Rio!!! Preparing many surprises for you: guest artists, new outfit, songs you're going to love hearing… I can't wait to be there… on the altar of the planet!!", the Colombian wrote.
The free megashow, costing R$ 15 million to the Rio city treasury, is the third in the "Todo Mundo no Rio" project, following Madonna in 2024 and Lady Gaga in 2025. Alfredo Lopes, president of HotéisRIO, projects hotel occupancy in the south zone at about 80%, close to Lady Gaga's (93.3%), but lower due to higher airfares and Shakira's prior Rio show in February 2025. Citywide, it's 65%.
Embratur recorded 13,500 international tickets for the event week (April 26 to May 2), led by Argentina (5,016). Galeão Airport expects 314,000 passengers from April 30 to May 5, up 14% from 2025.
In Saara retail, shops sell T-shirts, hats, and "Shakira's tears" stickers, betting on 2% sales growth over Lady Gaga, with a 2.5 million crowd estimated by the city hall. A press conference is set for Tuesday (28).
