Simplified tax regime aids small businesses and entrepreneurs

Rasha Abdel Aal, chief of the Egyptian Tax Authority, highlighted the benefits of the new simplified tax regime under Law No. 6 of 2025 for small businesses with annual turnover up to EGP 20m.

The regime offers a proportional income tax between 0.4% and 1.5% based on turnover. It also provides exemption from tax audits for five years along with quarterly value-added tax returns.

Businesses must comply with electronic invoicing and receipt systems to retain the incentives. Abdel Aal noted strong demand since the launch and pointed to support available through nationwide centres and hotline 16395.

The measures aim to reduce administrative burdens and integrate informal businesses into the formal economy. Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk leads the broader package of tax facilitation steps.
