Fans of Slipknot have waited nearly two decades for the release of "Look Outside Your Window," a project recorded by four band members during sessions for their 2008 album. The experimental album will debut on vinyl as a Record Store Day exclusive on April 18, 2026. It features Corey Taylor, Jim Root, Sid Wilson, and Shawn "Clown" Crahan.
The announcement of "Look Outside Your Window" marks the end of a long anticipation for Slipknot enthusiasts, known as Maggots. The 10-track album was created during a break from recording Slipknot's fourth studio album, "All Hope Is Gone," in 2008. Corey Taylor, Jim Root, Sid Wilson, and Shawn "Clown" Crahan worked on it at a remote farmhouse, producing music late at night.
Shawn "Clown" Crahan has described the sound as more experimental and psychedelic, drawing comparisons to Radiohead. Corey Taylor has noted that it bears little resemblance to typical Slipknot material. In a joint statement shared via Knotfest, the members explained: “We knew we were heading down a different creative path, entirely apart from Slipknot, and we followed it eagerly. We called the project Look Outside Your Window as a tribute to this experimental spirit.”
The statement further detailed the creative process: “Created during a chaotic time in our shared history, the songs were born late at night, in a house on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Peering out through a big picture window, we wondered about what, or who, might be lurking outside. That sense of the unknown seeped into the music itself.” They emphasized the lack of rules, incorporating subtle drum loops, organ bits, abstract guitar noise, and even samples of frogs or crickets.
Crahan teased the project in a 2024 NME interview, revealing he had shown final artwork to Taylor but faced delays due to holidays and business timelines. “I did say it was going to be in 2024. And I gave it the best fight that I could to make it this year,” he said. “It is happening... It’s out of my hands now. It’s being moved on... I’m really pleased about it. And happy to finally be rid of it.” He added, “I don’t know if it’s ‘good’, but I know that I love it. I make music for myself, but I hope that the people who waited and waited and waited think it was worth it too.”
This release is not an official Slipknot album but a side project highlighting the members' experimental side.
