Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Patrick Graham highlighted cornerback Brandin Echols as the defender who has impressed him most during the first two weeks of the offseason program. Graham shared his thoughts with reporters on Friday, noting Echols' energy in meetings. The praise comes amid a competitive secondary featuring several veterans.
Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Patrick Graham identified cornerback Brandin Echols as the player who has stood out positively in the initial phase of the team's offseason program. Speaking to reporters Friday via a team-provided transcript, Graham said, “Brandin [Echols] is impressive. I mean, I mess with Brandin already. I don’t even know if I’ve expressed that to him, but in the meeting room, I lock eyes with him a lot of times, and DeShon [Elliott].” He added, “I meant not to single anybody out, but I would say I’m really impressed with him and how he goes about his business. I like his energy in the meeting room. It’s been really cool.” The program so far has focused on weight room sessions, rehabilitation, and classroom work, with on-field practice set to begin Monday at voluntary minicamp. Echols joined the Steelers on a two-year deal before the 2025 season and posted career-best numbers that year: 48 tackles, six pass deflections, one sack, and two interceptions. He enters 2026 in a crowded secondary that includes Jamel Dean, Joey Porter Jr., Asante Samuel Jr., Jalen Ramsey, Jaquan Bisker, and DeShon Elliott. His exact role remains uncertain, potentially as nickel corner or special teams contributor, depending on positional shifts and draft additions. Continued strong impressions could earn him more snaps.
