The Pittsburgh Steelers are gathering information on quarterback Brendan Sorsby as he enters the NFL supplemental draft following a gambling scandal. Multiple sources indicate the team is evaluating the prospect despite his off-field issues.
Brendan Sorsby applied for the supplemental draft on Tuesday after dropping his lawsuit against the NCAA. The move came after an injunction briefly restored his college eligibility. His agent reported that 26 NFL teams have contacted him with mostly football-related questions.
The Steelers are among the teams conducting due diligence. Athletic reporter Mike DeFabo said the team is "doing their homework" and has not ruled out Sorsby. ESPN analyst Bill Barnwell suggested the Steelers could benefit from adding the talented quarterback to their roster.
Ray Fittipaldo of the Steelers Collective estimated any bid from Pittsburgh would likely come in the fifth or sixth round. Sorsby has scheduled a pro day for July 10 in Southlake, Texas. The supplemental draft must occur by July 16.
