Taylor Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You” from Toy Story 5 became the fifth movie song to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track, which debuted on June 20, holds the top spot for a second week on the chart dated June 27. Its performance positions it as a contender for an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.
The song follows four prior film tracks that reached the summit upon release. Whitney Houston’s “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” from Waiting to Exhale topped the chart on November 25, 1995, but received no Oscar nomination. Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic entered at No. 1 on February 28, 1998, and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” from Armageddon debuted at No. 1 on September 5, 1998, earning an Oscar nomination. Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” from Trolls reached the top on May 28, 2016, and was also nominated for an Oscar.
Additional leading contenders for the 2027 Best Original Song Oscar include “How to Write a Song Without You” from Power Ballad and “Shape of a Woman” from The Devil Wears Prada 2. Diane Warren continues her streak of annual nominations in the category.
