Tesla seeks permit for Las Vegas robotaxi service

Tesla has applied for an autonomous vehicle network permit in Nevada to launch commercial robotaxi rides in the Las Vegas Valley. The application, now under review by the Nevada Transportation Authority, follows sightings of gold-colored Cybercabs in the area.

The company submitted the permit request last week, according to state spokeswoman Teri Williams. She noted that the review process could take time before a recommendation reaches the full Authority for deliberation.

Tesla is also investing $3.1 million to retrofit a 37,000-square-foot building in the southwest valley, including eight Superchargers and six car lifts. The firm holds two Clark County business licenses and is hiring for local roles such as nighttime supervisor.

This builds on Tesla's existing approval for autonomous vehicle testing in Nevada, though that does not cover paid rides. The service currently operates in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
