The third minor injured in Friday's accident at Arrabassada beach has died at Tarragona's Hospital Joan XXIII. With this death, the tragedy now totals three fatalities.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon at the rocky area of Cova del Gos. A group of youths was jumping into the water while a yellow flag flew due to waves. Three minors exited on their own and three others were rescued by emergency services.
One 12-year-old died at the scene. The other two, aged 13, were taken in critical condition to Hospital Joan XXIII. One died Saturday morning and the third died that night.
Generalitat president Salvador Illa stated on X that he is “profundamente conmocionado” and conveyed “calor, afecto y apoyo a las familias y amigos de los chicos, y a todo el club CD La Floresta”. Tarragona City Council decreed three days of official mourning.
