Trump labels Democrats as kamikaze pilots in TV interview

President Donald Trump criticized the Democratic Party as self-destructive during a Sunday interview on Fox News. He likened Democrats to 'kamikaze pilots' for supporting figures like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. Trump also addressed recent protests and government shutdown measures.

On Sunday, October 19, 2025, President Donald Trump appeared on Fox News' 'Sunday Morning Futures' with anchor Maria Bartiromo. During the interview, Trump described the Democratic Party as heading toward ruin, stating, “The Democrats are kamikazes right now. They’re kamikaze pilots right now. They have nothing going. They have no future. They have incompetent candidates.”

Trump specifically targeted Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), calling her “a very low-IQ person” who was “polling okay in the Democrat Party, I can’t even believe it.” He expressed similar disbelief about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), saying, “AOC is — I watched her the other day, it’s like … you gotta be kidding. This is not going to make our country great.”

The president then turned to the New York City mayoral race, referencing Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, who debated opponents Republican Curtis Sliwa and independent Andrew Cuomo on Thursday. Trump dismissed Mamdani's self-description as a democratic socialist, insisting, “And for us to have a communist mayor, looks like we’re going to in New York — he’s not a socialist, he’s a communist.” He added, “It’ll be very interesting.”

Trump also responded to the weekend's “No Kings” protests, rejecting the portrayal of himself as a monarch: “They’re referring to me as a king. I’m not a king.” He linked this to the ongoing government shutdown, explaining that it allowed him to exercise authority to cut programs. “They made one mistake. They didn’t realize that [the Democrat Shutdown] gives me the right to cut programs… giveaways, welfare programs, etc., and we’re doing that. We’re cutting them permanently.”

These remarks highlight Trump's ongoing critique of Democratic leadership amid political tensions.
