Two men have been charged in Mombasa Court with conspiring to traffic cocaine worth nearly Sh4 million. Hilton Gocho Chopeta and Mohamed Jabir Ali denied the charges.
According to the charge sheet, the alleged events occurred between July 15 and 16, 2026, in Mombasa County. Chopeta is accused of trafficking 734.9528 grams of cocaine valued at Sh2,939,811. Ali is accused of possessing 256.478 grams of cocaine valued at approximately Sh1,025,912.
The total cocaine recovered weighed 991.4308 grams and was valued at Sh3,965,723. Chopeta was arrested on July 15 while heading to a flight to Dubai and excreted 44 suspected cocaine capsules. Ali was arrested on July 16 at the Likoni Ferry and led officers to Bamburi Fisheries where more capsules were recovered.
The suspects opposed bail, claiming their constitutional rights were violated. Investigator Constable Gershom Wachitsa said the probe is ongoing and asked that they remain in custody. Ali has another pending criminal case in court.
