Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Patricio Torres began a four-day visit to China on Sunday to boost bilateral cooperation.

The agenda includes the XVII Round of High-Level Bilateral Political Consultations in Beijing, with the participation of Undersecretary of Science and Technology Carolina Rossi.

Torres will meet with China's Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Cai Wei and other officials to review areas such as policy, Antarctica, mining, science and technology, and agriculture.

The visit marks 10 years of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Chile and China. Torres noted that bilateral trade doubled over the past decade and that the goal now is to further diversify ties.

In Shanghai, Torres will visit the Polar Research Institute of China to explore agreements on Antarctic scientific research. China is Chile's main trading partner, with an exchange of US$67.105 million in 2025.
