The University of the Basque Country has lowered the zeros in the Euskera PAU exam after reviewing 1,778 tests. Rector Joxerramon Bengoetxea reported that zeros drop to 110, though scores remain very low.
Rector of UPV/EHU Joxerramon Bengoetxea announced Monday that the second correction of Euskera University Access Test exams has reduced initial zeros from 168 to 110. Most of these zeros were concentrated in tribunal 11, which assigned 76 zeros in the first correction, now lowered to 11.
Bengoetxea defended the professionalism of the 848 evaluators and noted that stricter new orthography rules, which penalize up to two points, influenced the results. He stated the system guarantees equal opportunities and rejected challenges without evidence.
For her part, Education Counselor Begoña Pedrosa highlighted the atypical results and the lack of smooth communication between the Basque Government and the university. She proposed improving protocols and publishing the identity of the correctors to avoid perceptions of inequality.
