Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance said Sunday that they welcomed their fourth child, a boy named Alec Neel Vance, born at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The announcement said the baby is the first born to a sitting U.S. vice president in more than 150 years.

The couple’s older children are Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel.
The birth appears to be the first time in more than 150 years that a sitting vice president has had a newborn. The Associated Press and other outlets have pointed to Vice President Schuyler Colfax as the last sitting vice president to have a child born while in office; Colfax’s son was born in 1870.
The announcement also comes amid other recent births among senior Trump administration officials. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced in May that she gave birth to a baby girl.
No independent, on-the-record reporting was found confirming claims that Vance plans to forgo formal paternity leave or detailing how he will adjust his schedule beyond the family’s statement.
