Rhian Teasdale of Wet Leg has shared that she was removed from her GCSE music course during school for falling behind the rest of the class. The frontwoman discussed the experience in a recent interview, framing it as part of her journey into music-making.
Teasdale told The Cut that she is not from a musical household. She described the incident as humorous in hindsight.
She added that many people act as gatekeepers in music. Teasdale noted that successful songs often use just two chords.
The guitarist recalled learning her first song on the instrument. It was “Molly’s Chambers” by Kings of Leon, which helped her realize that technical skill was not required to enjoy playing with friends.
