Yamaha recalls 962 2026 TW200 motorcycles for speedometer defect

Yamaha Motor Corporation has issued a recall for 962 units of its 2026 TW200 motorcycles due to a potential issue with the front wheel gear unit assembly. The defect could cause the speedometer to display inaccurate speeds or stop working entirely, posing a safety risk. Dealers will replace the faulty parts free of charge.

Yamaha submitted a Part 573 Safety Recall Report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration detailing the problem. The front wheel’s Gear Unit Assembly, which drives the speedometer cable, may not be rigid enough and can deform after the axle bolt is tightened. As a result, it might fail to turn correctly, leading to an inoperative or inaccurate speedometer, according to Yamaha's report to NHTSA. The affected motorcycles were produced between June 2, 2025, and July 31, 2025, under NHTSA Campaign Number 26V-197 and Yamaha recall number 990187. Yamaha warns that riders could become distracted by the faulty speedometer or misjudge their speed, increasing the risk of losing control and crashing with potential severe injury or death. To address the issue, Yamaha dealers will replace the affected gear unit assemblies at no cost to owners. The company plans to keep the repair program open for about 15 years or until all units are fixed. Notifications to dealers and owners are scheduled for April 10 through 13, 2026. Owners with questions can call Yamaha Customer Relations at 1-800-962-7926 or the NHTSA hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
