FIFA moves women's tournament to Morocco for Afghan team
FIFA has relocated its Unites: Women’s Series tournament from the United Arab Emirates to Morocco after the Afghan women’s team was denied visas. The four-team friendly, featuring Afghan Women United, UAE, Chad and Libya, will now begin on Sunday. The event marks the debut for the Afghan team, formed following the 2021 Taliban ban on women's sports.
Afghanistan Women's Team Set for FIFA Return in Morocco
Afghanistan's women's national football team, now known as Afghan Women United, is poised to play its first official match since 2021 after a visa denial in the UAE prompted a last-minute venue switch to Morocco. The FIFA Unites: Women's Series tournament, originally scheduled for October 23, will now begin on October 26. Chad and Libya are confirmed participants, with a fourth team yet to be announced.
