A 26-year-old man internationally wanted for the double murder of two British citizens in Malmö has died in Lebanon on Christmas Day. Swedish authorities confirm the death, following earlier reports that he had been shot. The investigation into other involved parties continues.
In July 2024, two British citizens were found dead in a burned-out car in Malmö, leading to murder suspicions. A 26-year-old gang criminal from Malmö was internationally wanted and remanded in absentia for the double murder. The man, part of the city's gang environment, had fled to Lebanon.
In autumn 2024, reports emerged that the 26-year-old had been shot dead in Lebanon, but Lebanese authorities informed Swedish prosecutors that he was still alive and in hospital. Sweden was preparing an extradition request.
“We received information that the person is in hospital in Lebanon and got a formal inquiry about whether we would request his extradition,” says prosecutor Magnus Pettersson to SVT Skåne.
Then came the news on December 25, 2024: the man died in a hospital in Lebanon, confirmed by Lebanese authorities.
“We got info that he died on Christmas Day and it is now confirmed by Lebanese authorities,” says Magnus Pettersson.
Another man is remanded in custody suspected of aiding murder, and several people are involved in the investigation. The prosecutor will now consider how the suspected perpetrator's death affects the murder probe.
