The well-known German actor Peter Sattmann has died at the age of 77 on the first Christmas holiday after a long illness in Brandenburg. He became known to millions through roles in TV series like 'Tatort' and Rosamunde Pilcher films. The agency Tom Produkt confirmed the death citing Sattmann's ex-partner Katja Riemann.

Born in 1947 in Zwickau, Saxony, Sattmann grew up by Lake Constance. He started his career in theater, working for many years under director Claus Peymann in Stuttgart and Bochum. Later, he became familiar to a wide audience through television roles. He gained fame through series like 'Rätsel der Sandbank' and 'Der Prins muss her'. He appeared in popular formats such as Inga-Lindström and Rosamunde Pilcher films, and had guest roles in 'Der Alte' and 'Tatort'.
Sattmann was particularly in demand on public broadcasting. In May 2015, he convinced in two roles on one evening: an episode in 'Tatort' and the lead in the ZDF melodrama 'Ein Sommer im Marrakesch', reaching nearly 14 million viewers combined.
In his 2019 autobiography, Sattmann provided insights into a life of successes and deep wounds. At age four, he caught his father attempting suicide, and he spoke openly about his own suicidal thoughts: "I always feel a closeness to death. I want to live with it, and I want to die happily with it." He struggled with aging and fewer role offers: "In the past, I had twelve scripts per year on the table and picked the four best. That time is over; today you have to take everything," he said in 2011. Still, he hoped: "I hope and pray that I can work until my last breath."
Sattmann chose light romances to make his mother proud but felt trapped in the 'Herzkino drawer': "But once you're in the Herzkino drawer, you can't get out." Privately, he had a daughter with Katja Riemann and two more children with other women. He maintained a close relationship with two children and Riemann but had no contact with one child.
