IM Alice Lee defeated Women's World Champion GM Ju Wenjun 9.5-3.5 in the 2026 Women's Speed Chess Championship Quarterfinals on Friday. The result ended Ju's undefeated streak in the event.
Lee dominated the match across all three time controls. She won the 5+1 segment 3-1, the 3+1 segment 3.5-1.5, and the 1+1 segment 3-1.
In the post-match interview, Lee said she had not expected much from the match. She added that she was just trying to keep the lead after it reached three or four points.
Lee will face FM Anastasia Avramidou in the semifinals on July 27 at 10:30 a.m. ET. The final quarterfinal between GM Hou Yifan and GM Anna Muzychuk is scheduled for the same day at 8:00 a.m. ET.
