Spanish tennis player Aliona Bolsova has spoken about the mental challenges she faced during her career following her retirement earlier this year.
Bolsova, 28, retired in April after an eight-year professional career. She reached the fourth round of the 2019 French Open, her best singles result at a Grand Slam.
In a recent interview, she described feeling intense pressure after losses. “On the weeks when things went badly for me, I felt ashamed to go back home; I’d shut myself in my room because I couldn’t face my family,” she said.
Bolsova noted that her early success created lasting expectations. Most of her titles came on clay courts, including multiple ITF and Challenger doubles crowns. She expressed satisfaction with her achievements and plans to pursue writing.
