Amy Sedaris has ruled out reviving the cult Comedy Central series Strangers with Candy. The 65-year-old comedian cited the show's offensive humor as unfit for today's climate. She confirmed her stance during a 2025 cast reunion.
Amy Sedaris, the star and co-creator of Strangers with Candy, stated she has no interest in bringing back the show. During a 2025 cast reunion with co-creators Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello, someone approached them about a revival, but all three declined separately. Sedaris told People, “We had the opportunity, someone reached out to us, but all three of us separately said, ‘Yeah, no.’ I like that it’s stuck in time.” She added that her character Jerri Blank still appears in her other work: “Jerri pops up in everything I do.”The series, which aired for three seasons from 1999 to 2000 on Comedy Central, followed Jerri Blank, a 46-year-old former prostitute, junkie, and ex-con who returns to high school. It parodied 1970s and 1980s after-school specials with crude, absurdist humor centered on her antics and questionable choices.Sedaris believes the show's warped, offensive style would not resonate now. “I don’t want to play a bigot racist. There’s enough of them out there right now,” she said. “They’ll probably get the wrong idea.” Fans hoping for new episodes must settle for the 2005 feature film of the same name, Sedaris's last appearance as Jerri Blank.
