Former Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick has expressed optimism about American men's prospects at the upcoming tournament. Speaking on his podcast, he highlighted three players he believes could reach the later stages.
Roddick stated there is a very good chance of an American reaching the final. He pointed to Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe as among the top eight favorites.
Shelton recently won his first grass-court title at Stuttgart, defeating Fritz in the final. Fritz reached the final in Halle, while Tiafoe also showed strong form on the surface ahead of the event.
Fritz faces a difficult opening match against Jack Draper, with the British player backed by home support. Shelton and Tiafoe received more favorable draws.
The last American man to win a Grand Slam title was in 2003. Roddick himself was the most recent American to reach the Wimbledon final, doing so in 2009.
