The partnership between the Asia Pacific Padel Tour (APPT), Asia's padel circuit, and Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) will introduce a major padel event to Hong Kong. The APPT Grand Slam Platinum Hong Kong 2026 is scheduled for Friday to Sunday, April 17-19, 2026, coinciding with the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens at Kai Tak Stadium. This marks the 50th anniversary of the Sevens tournament, which has already sold over 100,000 tickets, underscoring its popularity.
Knockout rounds will occur at a prominent local Hong Kong padel club, with the finals on Sunday at the APPT Arena in the Fan Village at Kai Tak Sports Park. The three-day knockout format pro-am tournament will include top international players, as well as regional and local professionals and amateurs. Padel fans must present valid General Admission Hong Kong Sevens tickets to enter the venue and watch the matches.
Bryan Rennie, Executive Director of Commercial and Business Operations at HKCR, stated: “Following our move to Kai Tak Sports Park, we've now got additional capacity to host events around the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens. It is a chance for us to bring a sports festival to the precinct. It's great to have APPT on board to help stage this breakout event – building an exhibition padel court in the Fan Village is an opportunity we couldn't turn down in 2026. This should create excitement and a fantastic atmosphere within that area, with fans able to enjoy some top-quality padel alongside the rugby action in the main stadium. It’s a great addition to our 50th Anniversary celebrations.”
Carlos Carillo, Chief Executive Officer of APPT, added: “Padel is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and APPT is delighted to be partnering with HKCR. The inclusion of our tournament alongside the Sevens will be one of the biggest padel events in Asia. With our sports-focused demographics, there is a lot of audience crossover with our strong padel-travelling support base. The tournament will be a significant inflection point for padel in Hong Kong and across the region.”
