Argentine veteran Facundo Bagnis has accepted a 12-month suspension after testing positive for a banned substance during US Open qualifying last year. The International Tennis Integrity Agency determined a contaminated supplement caused the violation.
Bagnis, who reached a career-high ranking of world No. 55 in 2016, tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide. The ITIA issued its ruling on 6 July 2026 after reviewing evidence that traced the substance to a bespoke supplement called Digestive prepared by an Argentine compound pharmacy.
The player submitted medical records, prescription details, and laboratory analysis showing the supplement contained an average of 35.4 micrograms of the banned diuretic per capsule. The ITIA accepted that the violation was unintentional but imposed sanctions because players bear responsibility for substances they ingest.
The 12-month ban incorporates Bagnis’s provisional suspension that began on 18 October 2025 and will end at midnight on 17 October 2026. During this period he may not compete, coach, or attend sanctioned events, though he can train at his club facility from 17 August 2026. His results from the US Open and subsequent tournaments have been disqualified.
