Ariana Grande says new album Petal stems from unfiltered rage

Ariana Grande described her upcoming album Petal as coming from a place of unfiltered rage in a recent Apple Music interview. The pop star shared details about the 12-track project during a clip posted on July 29.

In the interview, Grande explained that she tapped into emotions she usually avoids. “I wrote from a place that I don’t usually, which was like an unfiltered rage that I think we all feel sometimes,” she said. She added that she skipped her typical rewrites that soften the lyrics.

Grande previously hinted at the album’s tone in May, calling it “a little feral” and noting it felt like “F–k it.” The lead single “Hate That I Made You Love Me” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The full album is scheduled for release on July 31. Grande debuted the title track during her Eternal Sunshine Tour stop in Montreal.
