BBC releases trailer for The Walsh Sisters drama series

The BBC has unveiled the trailer for The Walsh Sisters, a new six-part drama inspired by Marian Keyes' novels. The series follows the chaotic lives of five Irish sisters in Dublin. It will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One later this month.

The Walsh Sisters introduces viewers to a dysfunctional yet endearing family, centered on five sisters—Anna, Rachel, Maggie, Claire, and Helen—alongside their devout mother and bemused father. Set in Dublin, the drama explores the sisters' navigation through their 20s and 30s, dealing with heartbreak, grief, addiction, and parenthood. Their bond, marked by in-jokes, resentments, and a shared passion for power ballads, holds them together amid life's challenges.

Adapted for television by Stefanie Preissner, who also stars as Maggie, the series draws from Keyes' bestselling novels, including Rachel’s Holiday and Anybody Out There. Preissner penned four episodes, with Kefi Chadwick contributing the remaining two. Directed by Ian FitzGibbon, the production is a collaboration between RTÉ, Cuba Pictures, Metropolitan Films International, the BBC, and Screen Ireland. Cineflix Rights manages international distribution.

The cast features Caroline Menton as Rachel, Louisa Harland as Anna, Danielle Galligan as Claire, and Mairead Tyers as Helen. Aidan Quinn and Carrie Crowley portray the parents. Keyes, a celebrated Irish author with over 39 million books sold worldwide and translated into 36 languages, serves as an executive producer. Her accolades include five Irish Book Awards and Author of the Year at the 2022 British Book Awards.

Executive producers include RTÉ’s David Crean and Dermot Horan, Cuba Pictures’ Dixie Linder and Nick Marston, and others. The series highlights Keyes' enduring appeal since her 1995 debut novel.
