Senior Bharatiya Janata Party figures met on Monday to review proposals for expanding the organisation and altering its structure ahead of a new national team and possible Cabinet changes.
The meeting took place at the residence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and lasted more than four hours. Participants included Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president Nitin Nabin, BJP joint general secretary Shiv Prakash and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. BJP general secretary B.L. Santosh had earlier met senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leaders.
Discussions covered reconstitution of the Parliamentary Board, appointment of eight or nine regional in-charges drawn from board members, and raising the number of national office-bearers from 45 to about 60. Other topics included strengthening the grievance redressal system, increasing women’s participation and reviewing the political situation in poll-bound Punjab.
The talks form part of preparations for the announcement of the party president’s new national team and a possible Union government reshuffle, expected after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his overseas visit on June 18.
