After Gabriel Boric's government ended and José Antonio Kast took office, several former undersecretaries have taken up new roles in Congress, municipalities, and academia. Figures like Nicolás Facuse and Luna Follegati now serve as parliamentary advisors, while others seek positions in the private sector or education.
The new Chamber of Deputies began its first legislative session of the year on Monday, featuring several new faces from outgoing President Gabriel Boric's administration. Nicolás Facuse (PS), former undersecretary of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, took up the role of coordinator for the Socialist Party's deputies' bench. Eduardo Santa Cruz moved from La Moneda to become a political advisor for the Frente Amplio bench, and Luna Follegati (FA), former head of Studies in the Second Floor, now advises Senator Diego Ibáñez (FA). Other former undersecretaries have chosen municipalities and academia. Erwin Díaz (PS), former undersecretary of Government, will work from April with Mayor Karina Delfino (PS) in Quinta Normal. Gloria de la Fuente, former undersecretary of Foreign Relations, resumed teaching duties and will join the School of Government at Universidad Católica. Claudia Sanhueza and Víctor Orellana (FA) are pursuing academic paths. Pablo Chacón (PC), former undersecretary of Labor, joined Jeannette Jara's consultancy Transforma SPA. Suina Chahuán (FA), former undersecretary of Mining, plans studies abroad. Many others, such as Víctor Ramos (FA) or Francisca Perales (FA), are still resting without defined futures. Maximiliano Proaño (FA), former undersecretary of Environment, criticized the new government for withdrawing environmental decrees from the Comptroller's Office: “Lo llamativo e inédito en este caso es que se retira la totalidad de los decretos del Medio Ambiente en trámite para su toma de razón en Contraloría. Esto implica poner en riesgo instrumentos de gestión ambiental que han sido trabajados por años con rigor técnico y amplia participación de todos los sectores y que buscan proteger a las personas y la naturaleza”.
