Cardano hands core development to external teams

Input Output announced Friday it will transfer control of key Cardano blockchain components to outside specialist teams. The handover begins in August and extends into 2027. The move advances the network's decentralization efforts.

Input Output will shift responsibility for the Haskell node, Plutus smart-contract platform, Daedalus wallet, and Hydra scaling technology. Specialist firms including Se7en Labs and Teragone will handle portions of the work.

At least three Cardano implementations in Haskell, Rust, and Go will operate under community oversight. Organizations such as Intersect and Pragma will manage formal specifications.

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson described the change as the final stage of the Voltaire era. He called network setbacks necessary growing pains on the path to full decentralization.

The announcement follows weak network activity and a decline in the ADA token price to about 16 cents.
